Isis is sick

Our cat is sick. :( Due to symptoms of vomiting and lethargy emerging last night, I took her to the emergency pet clinic. Based on physical exam and history (plus me telling them that I cross-stitch and crochet and that she occasionally gets into the thread and yarn) they diagnosed her as having some of that yarn in her intestines. She was also very dehydrated. X-rays supported the diagnosis and she had surgery to remove the thread this morning. As of now, she is recuperating, but the vet says she is not out of the woods yet. She had some thread looped around her tongue and had quite a bit in her intestines.

I feel very bad about this entire situation and wish I did a better job of keeping my thread and yarn away from her. Please keep her in your thoughts and I’ll update once I know more. It is likely she will stay hospitalized through the weekend.

Updated 1/17 – I was able to go by and visit her last night. She was doped up on pain meds and just looked so delicate laying in her cage. They were able to remove all of the thread and they even gave it to me. By looking at it, I could see that she had gotten into the threads I have been using for the stitching I’ve been doing the past week on my geisha as part of it was the metallic blue I’m using for the water. I called this morning and she is doing better. She is more alert they said and not nearly as depressed. She seems to be keeping water down, so they will probably try and give her food tomorrow. More as I find out…

Update 1/18 – I visited her last night and she was doing better. The staff told me she was getting more alert every hour and was even moving around some. When I saw her, she was laying down, but was responsive – she even purred when I started petting her. :) Hopefully I’ll get to bring her home tomorrow, so I’m excited and hopeful about that. Thanks for the well wishes everyone. :)

  1. Oh Taneya :( I’m so sorry your furbaby is hurt. Please don’t beat yourself up too badly over this. They’re just as bad as two-legged babies about getting into things so easily. Huge Hugs from me :)

  2. At least she is doing better, cats get into everything dont they!! I was scared I was going to read she had swallowed a needle :O thats one thing I ALWAYS check – cant have missing needles and felines running around

  3. Tanya,

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I know how bad it is when the fur babies get sick. Last time Cleo was in, my other half Adam wanted to stay at the vets!!

Positive thoughts from me and Cleo and Pharaoh.

    Cheers,
    Laren

  4. I’m glad to see your cat is doing better. Please don’t punish yourself for the past, I can recall spending a lot of time with my kitties trying to retrieve thread, tinsel, string, bits from kids toys, you name it. Good luck and best wishes for both your cat and you.
