Located in the northern part of the state, Davis County was formed in 1850.  The county was named for Daniel C. Davis (1804-1850), a captain in the Mormon Battalion.

The county is bordered by Morgan, Salt Lake, and Weber counties. The county seat is Farmington.  Other cities in the county include  Bountiful, Centerville, Clearfield, Clinton, Fruit Heights, Kaysville, Layton, North Salt Lake, South Weber, Sunset, Syracuse, West Bountiful, West Point, and Woods Cross.
